Empowerment of women would mean equipping women to be economically independent, self-reliant, have positive esteem to enable them to face any difficult situation and they should be able to participate in development activities. The empowered women should be able to participate in the process of decision making. Women's empowerment is a critical aspect of achieving gender equality. It includes access to opportunities and resources, her power and control over her own life inside and outside the home, and her ability to effect change. Yet gender issues are not focused on women alone, but on the relationship between men and women in society. The actions and attitudes of men and boys play an essential role in achieving gender equality. Women empowerment cannot be possible unless women come on the front and help to self-empower themselves. There is a need to formulate reducing feminized poverty, promoting education of women, and prevention and elimination of violence against women. Women in rural India lack basic formal education and are mostly dependent on their husbands for financial support and lack financial independence for the majority of their lifespan. Apart from that, woman in rural India are prone to more domestic abuse and violence than their urban counterparts. MOTIVE BEHIND THE PROJECT: To ensure that women are empowered, the government and the public sector need to play important roles to enable their welfare in various sectors.
